Pillow Pets for Kids – The Latest Craze

With all the different accessories that seem to accompany bed time these days, it’s hard to keep track of them all. If you’ve turned on the TV at all in the past year, then you’ve probably heard of “Pillow Pets“. The unbelievably catchy slogan: “It’s a pillow, it’s a pet, it’s a pillow pet” gets stuck in your head very easily. These fuzzy little pillows are winning over the hearts of millions of  kids around the world, it’s time to figure out why.

Pillow Pets were invented in 2003 by San Diego mom, Jennifer Tefler who was looking to solve a problem her young sons were having. They loved to sleep with stuffed animals, but always ended up flattening them at night. She decided to give her children the best of both worlds and hence, the Pillow Pet was born. While it may seem like just another stuffed animal child’s toy, the pillow pet is truly unique and the very first of its kind. Pillow Pets were the very first folding stuffed toys and in her first three months of production, she sold out of 7,000 different types of Pillow Pets. By the end of 2003, the gross sales of Pillow Pets was over $300,000.

But why, you may ask are Pillow Pets such a success? They combine the security and joy a child finds from a stuffed animal, with the comfort and support of a pillow. While kids will most likely favor the first feature, parents will love the dual functionality the Pillow Pet provides. For the price of a pillow or a stuffed animal, your child will be receiving both.

Pillow Pets have won several awards for being an extremely kid-friendly product. In 2009, Stevanne Auerbach recognized the toy as one of the Best Vacation Toys. Also in 2009, Armin Brott of Mr. Dad awarded the product the Mr. Dad Seal of Approval for Father’s Day. Pillow Pets were among toys on Toys R Us’s 2010 ‘Hot Toy’ list.

While it’s hard to say yes for everything your kid asks for, Pillow Pets is one toy you should consider giving in to. While a natural latex mattress and proper bedding are important to your child’s comfort at bed time, a pillow pet can do wonders for their peace of mind when they fall asleep at night. The Pillow Pet will also give you as the parent peace of mind, knowing that your child won’t be sleeping on hard stuffed animals that have little parts they could easily choke on or get stuck with during the night.

In so many different colors, sizes and varieties, there’s something for every kid out there. Who knows, mommy might even find one she loves too! Let us know what your favorite pillow pet is!
