Scholarship Essay Contest

PlushBeds is the World Wide Web’s leader in luxury organic latex and eco-friendly mattress and bedding products. As a sustainable, 3rd party certified producer and award-winning natural and organic home products provider, we embrace the ethics of environmental protection and conservationism. In addition, we proudly align ourselves with learning, by enabling our youth to become future leaders through supporting them in their higher education goals, in particular through environmentally-related college and university majors. As part of our commitment, we sponsor a once-yearly Fall Semester green-related scholarship essay contest, in which PlushBeds contributes a one-time monetary award of $1,000 to be applied towards the winning student’s university or college tuition. Qualified students are those who are or will be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate green degree program in Fall 2022 at any accredited American college, university, or trade school.

For the year 2022, our designated topic and title for green scholarship essay submissions is “Tackling the Problem of the World's Food and Water Insecurity”. The essay should be no less than 1,000 words, and may be longer to adequately cover the necessary material.

Questions That Should be Considered When Writing Your Essay

Students should introduce the topic by briefly examining why the problem of global food and water scarcity and shortages exists in the first place, but thereafter put more emphasis on answering questions such as: What can be done to ensure basic needs of adequate food and clean water are available to citizens in countries that face this critical problem? What are some possible technological innovations that might lend themselves to being part of the solution? Who is responsible for making sure clean water and food is available? Is the problem one that is projected to get better, or worse (and why)? Is fundraising and charitable giving from more privileged nations at the heart of the solution, or is it more a matter of teaching or restructuring (including changes in local governments)?

Points will be awarded for originality and creativity, but also practicality (suggestions that are less likely to be acted upon are not as useful), so be imaginative and use your creative problem-solving skills, while pondering how easily the solutions you are suggesting will be in actual adoption. Careful attention to this instruction will aid the student in setting his or her essay apart from the rest.
