When Should I Buy a New Mattress?
Okay, so you’ve had your current mattress for how long you can’t remember and you want to know – When should I buy a new mattress? If you are keeping track of it like you would your oil change (specific timing), you would change your mattress out every 5 years or so, but maybe you think you get more “mileage” out of your mattress than most people because you aren’t as rough with it as other people are. How can you really know when it’s time to get rid of your old mattress and buy a new one? It isn’t so much about following the calendar exactly, but more about “signs” and “symptoms” of your present mattress just being sick, or worn out.
If your mattress is sagging or has a noticeable depression in it, it’s pretty obvious that it’s time to get a new one. If it takes you 5 years or 10 years to get to that point, who cares, maybe you are as light as a feather and don’t really “rough up” your mattress all that much and so it takes you 8. If your mattress is feeling lumpy or your children have done so many acrobatics on it that it is one of the rings in a 3-ring circus, then maybe it is time you buy a new mattress! If you wake up feeling like a contortionist and need a little back pain relief, then maybe it’s time to get rid of those aches and pains and splurge on a new latex mattress or a memory foam mattress. One of the wonderful things about latex mattresses is that they have 20-year warranties included (at least they do here at Plushbeds!), and their natural elasticity makes it possible for them to last upwards of 30 years. So when comparing the life of an innerspring mattress and a latex mattress, there is no comparison really, and you wouldn’t even need to be asking yourself “When should I buy a new mattress?” maybe even in your lifetime (if you are a Baby Boomer already) if you buy a new latex mattress now.
It’s pretty basic common sense thankfully when it comes to a decision on when you should buy a new mattress – how does your current one feel, do you suppose it may be dust mite infested, are you developing allergies to it? These are all things to consider when weighing out whether it’s time to buy a new mattress. And remember, the great things about latex mattresses are they are dust mite resistant, antimicrobial, and hypoallergenic. Take a look at our Botanical Bliss natural latex mattresses – then you can quit asking when it’s time to buy a new mattress already!
