Discover the Most Interesting and Unique Beds from Around the World Without Leaving Home!

As you get ready to crawl into your botanical mattress at night, have you ever wondered what people around the world are calling beds these days? While it may be hard to picture, beds from around the world don’t always look like the beds we typically imagine. Today, let’s explore the most unique and visually appealing beds from all walks of life. Some of them are so unrecognizable, you wouldn’t even realize it’s a bed without us telling you!

Housefish Suspended Bed

The Housefish suspended bed is supported by machined aluminum, stainless steel tension cables. The mattress platform is held completely rigid – it does not swing or sway. Believe it or not, this very abstract and seemingly “foreign” bed was conceived in Denver, Colorado in a laboratory for using America’s high tech and industrial manufacturing technology to produce innovative modern furniture that respects the environment and its customers’ health. While the suspended bed may seem tough and rigid, its steadiness provides for a noise free sleep which is what makes many people swear by its design.

Float Bed

Okooko, a 3-month-old eco-friendly mattress and bedroom-furniture company based in New Zealand, recently opened its first retail store in the United States, in Philadelphia. The company — which takes its name from the Maori word for “to cradle in arms”— sells mattresses ($2,500 to $3,000) made of natural latex, bamboo and wool, and beds ($2,200 to $5,500) made of wood from sustainable forests managed by the New Zealand government. It also sells high-design beds like Float ($25,000, including the mattress), seen below, by David Trubridge, a New Zealand designer. The float bed has often been compared to Leonardo Da Vinci’s flying machine for its similar shape and aerodynamic structure. It looks like you’d have just a good of a shot flying in this bed as sleeping in it!

Sampon Daybed

The Sampon daybed is created by the Hospitality Design Source company which aims to provide hospitality furniture solutions serving customers around the world. Its unique design and optimal comfort makes it a fan favorite at resorts and spas globally. It is particularly popular in Asian resorts and retreats due to its relaxing and inviting shape.

The Floating Bed

Not to be confused with the “float bed” from above, the floating bed has many different variations. As you can see from the picture below, it is suspended on cables and contrary to popular belief, the floating bed does not sway from side to side but actually remains suspended in the air by use of the cables. The bed below can be found in an apartment in Tribeca, New York and was designed by Bernstein Architecture firm.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at some of the most interesting and bizarre bed choices from around the world. Let us know if you have ever seen a bed as strange as some of these! Whatever your bed choice is this weekend, here’s hoping you have a pleasant couple days of rest and relaxation!
