Binaural Beats for Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is extremely challenging for many people around the world. One method more and more people are turning to for capturing that all-important sleep is listening to binaural beats. While it may sound like some far-fetched music from a foreign land, there is science to these sounds that alter brain wave activity and make sleep possible.

Where Can You Find Binaural Beats for Sleep?

It isn’t difficult to find excellent examples of binaural beats to help you achieve a great night’s sleep. You can find many options free online. You can also purchase MP3s, CDs, DVDs, and digital downloads that serve the same purpose.

You’ll find binaural beats to accommodate a wide range of tastes and preferences. Not everyone appreciates the same tones and sounds when trying to sleep. Finding the right “fit” for your sleep needs may take a little time.

If you prefer something a little more portable for your sleep rhythms, you might want consider downloading the Brain Wave iTunes app. The Banzai Labs app allows you to choose from many different sleep needs from headache relief to power naps and all points in between as well as the types of sounds you’ll hear while sleeping.

Are There Other Applications for Binaural Beats?

It makes sense that if binaural beats are so effective at helping people get the restful sleep they need, that these beats will come in handy for other needs too. Fortunately, they do. In addition to helping fall asleep in the first place, binaural beats are instrumental tools to help people get more restful sleep, elicit lucid dreams, relieve stress, relax, develop memory/recall, improve concentration, manage pain, meditate, improve energy levels, and even quit smoking. Those are simply the applications where binaural beats are currently used. The sky really is the limit, however, when it comes to possibilities.

How do Binaural Beats Work?

Binaural beats are not subliminal messages. It’s important to understand the difference. It’s the use of specific rhythms to influence brain waves. It’s like using the volume button on the television remote to turn the volume down. The right frequency adjustments to the brain turn your brain down to a frequency where sleep is possible. The frequency in the beats is the conduit rather than a remote control device. The result, however, is similar. Muted brain frequencies make it possible for you to sleep.

A binaural beat is your brain’s perception of a beat that arises from the difference in Hz between a frequency being played in one ear vs. a separate frequency being played in the other ear. Stereo headphones are best to illicit the affect. For example, if one ear is receiving a sound frequency of 300 hertz, and the other ear is receiving a sound frequency of 310 hertz, the brain perceives a “beat”, or the difference of 10 hertz. These binaural beats have been studies for a myriad of uses including healing and calming the mind, as well as sleep.

Are binaural beats right for you? That’s a question only you can answer. The only thing you have to lose by trying is a little bit of time you normally spend tossing and turning in search of a good night’s sleep.
